Meet the Governors of Southville Infant and Nursery School

Hello - my name is Brian Chalke and I am currently the Chair of Governors of the School. I am also Chair of Finance and Chair of Health and Safety.
I have had a very long association with the school as my own three daughters passed through it in the 70's and 80's, more recently I have had 4 grandchildren in the school although they have all left now

Hello my name is Kevin Adcock and I am a father of three children, two of which were former pupils of this school. Currently I am a Community Governor at Southville Infant and Nursery School. I have been a governor at the school for 4 years. My roles include Vice Chair of Governors, Chair of Pay & Personnel, a member of Premises, Health and Safety Committee, an ICT Governor and a Deputy Child Protection Governor. I enjoy working with the governors and the school to help promote learning in a safe, fun and supportive environment. I also volunteer to assist with reading and ICT with the year 1 children twice a week and act as a positive male role model for the children.

My name is Joanne Lacey. I am the Head Teacher at Southville, and a member of the Governing Body. I have worked at Southville since 1992, when I arrived as a newly qualified teacher. Working at Southville has provided me with a very exciting career, and I progressed from teacher to Senior Teacher and then Deputy Head Teacher. The Governors appointed me as Head Teacher in 2001 following the retirement of Mary Cooksey. As Head Teacher governor, I am a member of the Curriculum Committee, the Finance Committee and the Premises, Health and Safety Committee, and I am an advisor to the Pay and Personnel Committee.
I am passionate about the children of Southville, and am committed to ensuring that they receive the best start in life that we can possible provide for them. I am very fortunate in having a very committed staff who have the same aim. The present Governing Body also share the same commitment, and I feel very fortunate to be working with a group of people who give their time so generously to support the school. They play a key role in monitoring and evaluating the school's performance, holding the school to account, and in making strategic decisions. On a more personal note, they play an invaluable role in supporting me in the Leadership and Management of the school.

Hello, My name is Tony Ransom, I have been a parent governor for nearly 4 years. I originally became a governor to give something back to the community, and to take a more active role in my daughter's education. I have three children, Amy is in year 4 in the junior school. Evan who in the nursery and Alyssa who is just over 1.
I was surprised by the amount of work that goes into running a school, the commitment by all the staff at the school to ensure children do the best that they can is outstanding. Amy has made excellent progress, we made the right choice to send our daughter to Southville.
I strongly believe the parent involvement is a key point to helping children achieve the full potential throughout their school life and, as a governor, will continue to push the school to have more involvement with parents and give them the information they require to help their children at home and in the school.
I sit on four committees. Premises - Health & Safety, Finance, Pay and Personnel and the Curriculum committee and are the named Governor for Numeracy. I am also a Parent Governor at Southville Juniors.
.

My name is Janet Barton and I work as a Teaching Assistant in Year 2. I am also a Learning Mentor and a Family and Community Coordinator. I have worked at the school for approximately 11 years and before that I was a parent volunteer.
I have two daughters who were both pupils at the school and who are now 19 and 17 years old.
I first became a governor about 12 years ago and started as a Parent Governor. My motivation at that time was to become more aware of how the school was educating my children. I found the role so interesting and rewarding that I have stayed on as a member of the governing body ever since. At various times I have been the Named Governor for SEN, Numeracy and Literacy.
I am currently a Staff Governor and Link Governor. I am on the Curriculum committee and am a member of the Recruitment Panel. I really enjoy the Governors role in helping to make Southville the best it can be for our children.

My name is Becca Adamson. I am a Teacher Governor. I have worked at Southville since 2006 when I joined the school as a Newly Qualified Teacher.
I have been on the governing body at Southville for nearly two years and am currently on the Curriculum and Finance Committees. Being a governor has given me a fascinating insight into areas of running a school, which are not always seen by teachers during the course of their everyday teaching.
I have been very fortunate to be given many opportunities to further my career at Southville and am currently Reception Year Leader as well as the teacher in Red Class. I am also Maths Subject Leader and Assessment Co-ordinator for the school. I am currently in the process of completing a course in Leadership and Management in Principle and Practice and hope to use this to work towards an MA in Educational Practice.
I believe strongly that every child at Southville deserves the very best education that we can give them and I hope that by furthering my own knowledge and education I will be able to continue to do this. The children at Southville are a pleasure to teach and make coming to work everyday an extremely rewarding experience. I am determined that I will always do my very best to give them the right start as they begin their educational careers.
