About Our School

The first school on the site was built in 1927.  It catered for all primary age pupils from the age of 5 to 11.   However, it was not long before Southville Primary School was also overcrowded, and a further building was opened on the same site in 1938 to house pupils of infant age.  The original building became a seperate Junior School.

By the mid 1980's a decision was taken to re-build, and this time it was to be a building which would house both schools.

Both Southville schools moved into their new accomodation in the summer of 1990.

The teaching areas in the new building are designed in a semi-open plan style.  Each year group is made up of three classes.  Each year group also has a room where small groups of children can work with support staff in a quieter atmosphere.  The Nursery is an integral part of the school building.

The two school halls adjoin each other and have a joint partition which can be folded back to provide an extra large space for events such as Christmas concerts and fairs.

The schools are fortunate in having a large playing field which they share.  There are also hard play areas and in the Infants School, a range of fixed play equipment which is surrounded by safety surfaces.  In addition every class has direct access to outside space or to the playground.

Although they share the building, the two Southville Schools retain their separate identities and have their own Head Teachers and Governing Bodies.

Sharing a building with Southville Junior School means that close co-ordination and organisation can take place. Most importantly, children transfer with confidence into their new school once it is time to leave the infants phase of their education
